Lineage

 Joe MoreiraÂ
9th Degree Red Belt

If you train pressure-based Jiu-Jitsu, you're training Joe Moreira's Jiu-Jitsu.Â
A 9th Degree Red Belt and one of the original pioneers of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Professor Joe Moreira learned directly under Reyslon Gracie in Rio de Janeiro and later trained under Francisco Mansor. He's been teaching since the 1970s, long before BJJ had a name outside Brazil.Â
The Moreira System:
*Â Joe Moreira's Jiu-Jitsu is built onÂ
fundamentals that don't break under pressure:Â
*Position before submission
* control first, finish secondÂ
 *Always forward pressure
* no stalling, no retreatingÂ
*Heavy on top, heavy on bottom
* base, weight, and control over flashÂ
*Sustainable Jiu-Jitsu - a game that still works 20 years from nowÂ

It's methodical, technical, and built for real confrontation, not just points. Â
"Position before submission' doesn't just refer to taking one step at a time. At all times, in the hierarchy of decision making, I must focus on positional correctness, before submissions will even become possible."Â
Â
Professor Moreira has promoted and graded hundreds of Black Belts across the world. His students coach in the US, UK, Europe, and beyond including 4th Degree Black BeltÂ
James Woodfield Jones, under whomÂ
Professor Daniel Wait at Life Jiu-Jitsu BJJ Lincoln operates.Â
Â
Even at Red Belt rank, Professor Moreira continues to teach, refine, and promote the art. His approach hasn't changed: strip Jiu-Jitsu to what works, drill it until it's automatic, and pass it on without ego.Â
At Life Jiu-Jitsu BJJ Lincoln, we don't just share his lineage. We teach his system.Â
My Coach: Professor JamesÂ
Woodfield Jones - 4th Degree BJJ Black Belt, Self Defence authority & MMA Coach.Â
*Coach Profile: James Woodfield Jones - 4th Degree Black Belt*Â
43 years in the martial arts. That's notÂ
a typo.Â
James Woodfield Jones is a 4th Degree Black Belt under Joe Moreira, and he's spent nearly half a century refining what works - then teaching it with zero ego and 100% intent.Â
*Lineage & Experience*Â
A direct product of the Joe MoreiraÂ
approach, James carries the same principles that define Moreira Jiu- Jitsu: position before submission, always forward pressure, heavy on top and heavy on bottom. But 43 years doesn't just mean rank - it means he's seen every trend come and go, and he still teaches what holds up under pressure.Â
*Teaching Style*Â
Methodical. Purposeful. Highly technical.Â
James doesn't rush. Every detail has a reason, every drill builds on the last. His classes feel slow until you roll then you realize you're getting crushed by fundamentals you thought you understood. That's the MoreiraÂ
method, delivered with surgical precision.Â
*Track Record*Â
He's coached BJJ and MMA athletesÂ
across the world. Some went on to win. All of them left with a deeper understanding of how to make Jiu- Jitsu sustainable - for the long fight, the long career, the long life on theÂ
mat.Â
*Philosophy*Â
"Sustainable Jiu-Jitsu. Repeatable skill sets from a deep understanding of BJJ's key principles."_Â
This isn't about collecting techniques. It's about building a game that still works when you're tired, injured, or 10Â
years older. If it's not repeatable, James won't teach it.Â
*Off the Mats*Â
Humble. Open-minded. Highly approachable.Â
He teaches with great humility - no chest-beating, no magic secrets. Just a 4th degree who still learns, still questions, and still makes white belts feel like they belong.Â
